So we managed to make it to Fairbanks in one piece with only one hiccup...a scare that the dogs didn’t make it on the flight from Anchorage to Fairbanks. Despite the “kindness” of Aaron and Carrie, the rude flight attendants, everything worked out. However, when I got off the plane in Fairbanks that is another story. I found out there are no sky cabs at Fairbanks “International” airport and unlike LAX there are no Marisa’s too help me (thanks again!!)... But remember that drunk guy in the airport bar in O’hare??? No, he didn’t help me, but his friend Chris did!! And thank god he did otherwise I might still be at the airport. First the rental car’s doors were frozen with the exception of the driver’s door. So we loaded the 4 suitcases through that door! Eventually we got them all working, loaded the dogs, broke down the crates, and I was off to the hotel for the night...
To say it was cold would be a lie... It was freezing, Bailey didn’t even want to walk. He just kept holding his paw in the air looking at me as if saying, “how could you do this to me??”. Well bud, get used to it. We are in it for the long haul! After a few hours of interrupted sleep we loaded back into the car and drove to North Pole... Where, I drove past the best street ever!! RUNAMUCK Ave!!!! Let’s just say this is a constant source of amusement to me... No matter how my day is going, I just drive by it and laugh... And I mean really laugh! Where did I move to?? Is this a real place???
The house... Its small, but great (I’ll post pictures soon). The dogs quickly made themselves at home. And the landlord, Kenny, well I couldn’t ask for better. He loves the dogs and has invited them outside on the weekends with him while he works on the amazing log house that he is building. Great, that way I don’t have to go outside!!!
Despite some hiccups, we have settled in nicely. The furniture was delivered the other day (just a mattress and a couch...remember the house is tiny!)... And of course the deliver guy broke a light fixture off the wall while he was carrying the mattress upstairs. So day two in the house and I have to let Kenny know that we already broke something!! YEAH! The ideal renter, two hyper active dogs and breaking things already!! Should we start a pool on how long he is going to let us stay??
The biggest problem now is the CAR!!! I took to calling the car shipping guy 4-5 times a day for the last week... And of course no answer. This guy just does not like talking to me. For the life of me I can’t figure out why?? But of course, when a new number pops up on his caller ID he answers right away and talks to my dad. WTF??? So he makes the same excuses, says he will call me, and hangs up with my dad... WRONG move, if you have him on the phone keep him there, he will never answer your calls again!!! Except that my determined father decided to call at all hours of the day, and probably woke the guy up at 5 o’clock this morning. Finally we found out that the car has not left Seattle yet!!! And Bob (the schmuko, as my sister calls him...) says it will be here on the 23rd (yeah right, he previously told me it would take 10-14 days from Seattle and it won’t ship until the 19th)... Does anyone see a problem that he still won’t answer my phone calls, I only know what is going on with my car because he talked to my dad, and it is going to take a month longer to get here than he said it would?? WONDERFUL! Anyone need to ship a car?? I’ll give him a glowing recommendation!
So we really aren’t in California anymore.. I have seen too many one piece ADULT snowsuits to count.. Others just wearing sweatshirts outside in –40 degrees (are they out of their minds???). People here just leave their cars running in the store parking lots... No one seems to steal them. But I have to admit, everyone here is sooooo nice. I made friends at the bank the other day... All four tellers and 3 other customers were giving me advice and asking me for my whole life story!!! It was great... Oh, and the delivery guys said if I ever get bored to give them a call...haha!!! Really??? Have they not seen a female before? Better yet, I really considered it... I have to get out of the house sometime and make friends right??
Tomorrow I am going to venture out to Twin Rivers for dinner with one of the doctors and his wife... Looking forward to getting out of the house and actually getting to talk to people instead of two dogs that just look at me like I am crazy!
Miss everyone! when are the visitors starting to arrive????
